Dreaming Big
Dreaming Big

January 23, 2026

I’ve always pictured Ireland as a place with alot of preserved history, and that’s a big reason why this study abroad means so much to me. I want to actually feel like I’m part of it while I’m there. I plan really paying attention when walking through places like Dublin Castle and the medieval streets of Galway to make it feel like stepping back into Ireland’s folk and medieval past. Ireland has kept so much of its history alive, and I’m excited to finally see that in person instead of only through pictures or videos. I really want to hear traditional music in everyday places and see how old traditions still exist alongside modern life. More than anything, I want to feel connected to the people and the overall atmosphere of the country.

Sometimes, the simplest moments hold the deepest wisdom. Let your thoughts settle, and clarity will find you.

Goals

One of my main goals for this trip is to fully experience Irish culture and daily life. I want to see how people celebrate, interact, and share stories, especially through music and traditions. I also hope to explore historical sites and understand why they matter, not just what they are. Being in a different country will also push me to be more independent and confident navigating new environments. From an academic perspective, I want to take what I learn and apply it to my studies in a more meaningful way. Overall, I see this trip as a chance to grow both personally and educationally while learning more about a culture I’ve always been interested in.

Why is this important to me?

This trip connects to a lot of things I enjoy in my daily life. Ireland reminds me of House of the Dragon, since many scenes were filmed there and the landscapes inspired parts of the show, which makes it feel familiar even though I’ve never been. I’ve also connected with Irish culture through music like “Rocky Road to Dublin” and “Will Ye Go, Lassie Go,” which I learned more about after watching the movie Sinners. Hearing those songs in the country they come from will make them feel much more real and meaningful. Since we’ll be there in March, I’m excited to experience the beginning of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and see how those traditions show up in everyday life. This trip connects my past interests with my future goals, especially my desire to keep exploring new cultures and places.
